Well, for a match so early in the season, still off mats, still placing, and the course playing long, that wasn't too bad a start to the season, I think. We expected Toft to bring a selection of high handicap guys wearing masks, but none of the games were disastrous losses for us and two big wins for Alan/Rob and Tim/Clive were notable. NTP for Burghley on the 3rd was initially Pete H, then Rob, then won by Mike Wright. NTP for Toft was their VC (in charge today) Neil Frame, who payed a solid game with a proper golf swing, off 13 but has been much lower. David and I were 4 down after 6 after a birdie barrage but got back to dormie 1 down then lost the 18th to a gimme par from Alan Barnes.
The weather started damp and rainy but eased off and was pleasantly warm and dry before the end.
Thanks to all the Burghley team who turned out and did their best in challenging conditions.
Next up, Ramsey away, not my fav course but we'll do our best.
