SENIORS HOME MATCH AGAINST SPALDING 21st July 2024. RESULT W 51/2 - 21/2

A breezy, cloudy day, with one shower spoiling the so-called summer weather. Mick and I had a hard fought game against Spalding's Captain Trevor and left-hander Dave, never more than one ahead or behind and finishing with a halved match; both sides missed chances for wins but nobody disgraced themselves. Having lost 3-5 at Spalding earlier in the season, we were satisfied to come out 5½-2½ winners at home, giving us an overall 8½-7½ season win. The course was in excellent condition and the chicken Caesar salad was very acceptable.

SENIORS MATCH AWAY AGAINST THE LEICESTERSHIRE 17th July 2024 - RESULT L 31/2 - 21/2

A fine day (at last) to visit The Leicestershire, and my partner Mark's first visit. In spite of him driving long and straight most of the time, we were 4 down after 8 to Tim and Robert (a retired high court judge getting 11 shots and outplaying us both!) and we only rallied well enough to lose 3 and 2. After 3 results were in, a whitewash was looming, but great wins by Rob & David D and then Mike Earl and David S and a useful half saw us lose respectably 3½ to 2½. Great course, a tasty one-course meal and friendly hospitality made for a lovely day out. It's a pity (IMO) we don't go there every year. Hopefully we'll turn the result around at BP next year.

SENIORS AWAY MATCH AGAINST PETERBOROUGH MILTON - 4th July 2024 RESULT L 51/2 - 21/2

Well, after our 8 -0 victory when P'boro Milton came to Burghley earlier this year, we were looking for a reasonable result - at least 7½ - ½ - to ensure the Series Win. It was bright but windy and as usual the super-fast greens were going to challenge our short games.
Javan and I were coasting after 10, 3 up after both getting a birdie on a par 3. Then the opposition opened fire with 5 pars in 6 holes, three of those with shots given, and we could do no better than halve the rest to lose 2 and 1. Hard to imagine, but true; never be complacent on the golf course.
Thankfully three matches were halved and Phil and Clive brought home the only win of the day, to give us a 2½ - 5½ loss and overall a 10½ - 5½ season result.
The food was delicious. For Burghley, David Devlin pipped me for NTP on 11 and Kevin Julian won the wine for PM on 16.
